School Work Monitoring
School work monitors are learning coaches who provide support for families involved in all levels of K-12 education. They are composed of certified teachers, tutors, and coaches who take on school work monitoring by checking in with students daily and teaching them valuable executive functioning skills. Learning coaches ease the parental burden of managing a child’s academics while providing valuable feedback and tips to make the educational experience successful.
How it Works
Services Provided
Online Learning Coaches provide the following services:
- Daily monitoring of the student’s progress and grades.
- Provide parents with regular updates on student progress and grades.
- Ensure that the student is working at an appropriate learning pace.
- Teach valuable executive functioning skills.
- Teach/encourage students how to self advocate and reach out to their teachers when needed.
- Communicate with teachers for regular updates and suggestions.
- When necessary, provide basic content instruction.
Consistent Communication
As part of school work monitoring, learning coaches check in with students daily. The length of the sessions will depend on the amount of material needed to be covered and will vary from day to day.
Means of Communication
Learning coaches use a combination of different technology to facilitate daily check-ins. Avenues of communication will be discussed and determined by the learning coach, the student and their family. The technology used will not require any form of additional payment. Listed below are some of the popular platforms currently being used by learning coaches:
- Zoom
- FaceTime
- Google Classroom
- Phone
- Text
Flexible Meeting Times
One of the benefits of meeting with an online learning coach is that schedules can be flexible. Learning coaches recognize that students are busy. Extracurricular activities are an important part of adolescence that are supported and encouraged. Learning coaches are well versed in all of the online communication tools available and can check in by text, call, or video.
Makeup Work
Planning, prioritizing, and task initiation are three important executive functioning skills that will be emphasized. The learning coach and student will use these skills to construct an individualized makeup plan. As part of that plan, the learning coach will monitor work completion daily to ensure that the assigned tasks are being met.
Support Students in all Learning Environments
Learning coaches work with students who study online from home, those attending a brick and mortar school, or youth participating in a hybrid model of both remote and in person instruction. Having a learning coach help organize and monitor a child’s school work is highly beneficial in any learning environment.
Transitional Support from one Learning Environment to Another
Learning coaches are prepared to help manage the transition from brick and mortar to remote and back again if needed. Having a learning coach by your child’s side ensures that these transitions will occur smoothly with little disruption to your child’s education.
